<image:caption>Folks come to therapy for many reasons, and often for more than one at once. It might be that the same arguments keep coming up in your marriage. Or you react more strongly than you'd like with the people closest to you, and afterward you're not quite sure what happened. Maybe relationships start intensely and end suddenly or painfully, and you can't see why the same thing keeps happening. It might be that someone you love has died, and the world has carried on in a way that doesn't yet make sense to you. Or grief has stayed longer than you expected, and you're tired of feeling that you should be over it by now. Perhaps something happened, recently or long ago, that still seems to live in you. It might show up as feeling on edge, shutting down, or reacting in ways that feel out of proportion, even when logically part of you knows it’s not happening in the moment again. And sometimes it's harder to name: a sense that you don't quite know who you are, or that something keeps getting in the way of the life and relationships you want. Whatever brings you here, what matters in therapy is understanding what is actually going on for you. WHAT THE WORK IS LIKE Therapy with me is a conversation, but a particular kind. I will invite you to pay close attention to what happens in your relationships, including the one between us, to what you feel and when you feel it, and to the ways the past keeps turning up in the present. Over time, that attention can make things that felt chaotic or inevitable easier to understand, and sometimes easier to change. It is not a quick fix, and I won't hand you a set of strategies and send you on your way. Therapy will not always make you feel better; sometimes it will leave you feeling challenged or conflicted. It is steady, serious work, done at a pace that suits you. In the long term, I hope to help you understand how you work, so that you can care for yourself and find relationships that meet your needs.
